With the start of the New Year, I find myself ruminating on the things we take for granted in our daily lives. While we have had our challenges, we never have to worry about where our next meal is coming from or how to provide for our children. Everything we need is within an arms reach or a click away!
Our dear friend Jonathan Mensah has created a foundation that works with children in Accra, Ghana. The orphaned children in Accra have to walk 2 miles to and from school every single day without access to proper food or well maintained clothing. These kids truly have nothing.
The Jonathan Mensah Foundation is working to raise enough money for a school bus that will provide a safe route to and from school for these kids. Hearing about these children in Accra, my heart broke. My heart is always to help people locally, as I was watching my friend and his organization I wanted to experience what they do and help.
While we can't be in Accra right now, we really want to help in the mean time by gathering clothing and essesntials. Together with members of our community we've been able to collect over 3000 articles of clothing and are currently fundraising, so that once we get there, we can go and buy food to pass out in the village.
We take things for granted here in the US where mothers are doing everything they can to provide a meal for their children every single day. There is no excess. And these little kids who are in an orphanage have to walk they don't have the ability to just jump in the car and go to school they have to walk 2 miles just to get an education.
